Albert “Ray” Whitacre, 63, formerly of the Madison area passed away at his residence in Columbia. Ray was born to Delbert and Frances (McNeely) Whitacre on August 29, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Madison High School and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Truman State College. Ray recently retired from the United States Postal Service after 23 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and loved dogs. He was a contributor of the NRA and the Humane Society. He is survived by brother, David Earl Whitacre and wife Janice of Moberly, MO; sister, Sharon Jackson and husband Bob of Clearwater, FL; nieces and nephews: Carrie Belzer, Shane Whitacre, Kyley Perkins, Rob Jackson, David Jackson, and John Jackson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 4:00 p.m until 6:00 p.m at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Cairo, Mo. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
