Alma Julia Overly went home to be with Jesus, on December 9th, 2019, at her country home outside of Renick. She went peacefully in her sleep, after a lengthy illness, with her loved ones gathered around her.
Alma was born in Rolla, MO, January 26th, 1944, in the middle of a big snow storm. She came into the world before the doctor could even arrive. She was the 4th child of Edgar and Dessie Light. She married Harry James Overly on October 24th, 1964, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They just celebrated 55 years together.
Alma is survived by three daughters, Sheri Overly, Brenda Howard (Scott Howard), Paula Carrol (Rory Carrol); seven grandchildren, Krystal Rubison (Wes Rubison), Amanda Chilton (Michael Chilton), Justin, Julia and Jacob Schwieter, Jordan and Jarcia Sexton; six great grandchildren; siblings, Alberta Thornhill, Wayne Light, Allen Light, Fern Gnemi, Deb Mace, Martin Light, Dennis Light and Tim Light; and many more family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Dessie Light; brother, Laurence Light; sister, Joanne Hunt; son in law, Charlie Schwieter and her bosom buddy Mary Schwieter.
She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Moberly. She loved to write songs and sing praises to the Lord. She enjoyed gardening and playing the organ, piano and her harmonica. She also loved reading God’s Word, and her favorite book, “Imagine Heaven”. She was a great cook, and made everyone feel loved and welcome at her table. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Services celebrating Alma Julia Overly’s life will be held, Saturday, December 14th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Private interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 14th, 2019 from 12:30 p.m. until time of service, at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home.
