Annie Davis, 98, of Moberly, passed away peacefully April 7, 2018 at The Bluffs in Columbia. She was born September 19, 1919 in Monroe County near Holliday, Missouri to Florence (Newsem) and Roy Carr. She attended rural grade schools and graduated from Middle Grove High School in the Class of 1937.
She married Leon Davis September 25, 1940 and they resided and farmed in Monroe County, east of Renick. They met at a Middle Grove School pie supper, which was a traditional fund raiser in rural communities.
Annie was a good cook and known to set a fine table for meals for farm hands and family and friends. She raised a big garden and did a lot of canning and freezing. She enjoyed her flower garden and bouquets of wild flowers. She was an excellent seamstress.
Annie was an active member of New Hope United Methodist Church, having served as treasurer and in other offices and was also a member of United Methodist Women. She visited the Holy Land in 1974.
Annie supported many community organizations. She served Randolph County Prairie 4-H Club as community and projects leader. In 1970 she received a 15 year 4-H leader award and her name was added to the Extension Leaders Honor Roll. She has served as secretary for the Randolph County 4-H Council. She was active in the Middle Grove Home and School Club / PTA and served as an officer. She received a certificate in 2017 for 75 years of service in the MAFCE, in the organization formerly known as Thrift Extension Club. She enjoyed many years of friendship with her fellow community members.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, and by her daughter Barbara (Davis) Steele, brother Tom Carr, and sister Amber Hogan.
Surviving are daughter Doris (Phil) Brown of Moberly, sister Minnie Ruth Slavens of Moberly, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A funeral service celebrating Annie’s life has been scheduled for Thursday, April 12 at 11:00 at New Hope Methodist Church, east of Renick on Route NN, with interment to follow at New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 11 from 4-6 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated to New Hope Church Cemetery Association, c/o Bonnie Kisor, 3582 Hwy. NN, Moberly, MO 65270.
