Arlene Marie Hudson, 97, of Moberly, went to be with the love of her life, Duane Hudson, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living in Moberly, Missouri.
Arlene was born February 9, 1928, in Hampton Township (Quad Cities IL). She received her education in a one room schoolhouse, graduated from Erie Illinois H.S. with honors and attended Augustine & Marycrest College in Rock Island, IL. She subsequently taught classes in a one room school.
She married Duane Hudson, “The Rock of Her Life”, in 1950, in Geneseo, IL, at St. Malachy’s Catholic church by Father Lyle Sheen.
They moved from Illinois to a farm south of Salisbury, MO, in 1955. In 1958, they relocated to a farm east of Moberly where they raised three sons. She loved animals (especially dogs & cats) and enjoyed the hard work that came along with helping Duane raise livestock. Her memory was nothing short of amazing. At age 93, she randomly quoted a poem she had learned in grade school; (A poem as lovely as a tree). At 96, she wrote a beautiful poem devoted to the simple pleasures of farm life that included a line, “have you ever smelled the breath of a newborn calf?”
Arlene’s motto in life was: “Give something to others each day of your life; if only a handshake, a smile or a tear. Whatever is given, if given in love – The Master Recordeth in Heaven Above”.
Arlene was an unfailingly cheerful person who brightened the day of everyone she encountered with her infectious giggle & laughter.
She loved to cook and share food with family and friends. A typical holiday meal would consist of beef roast, a ham and turkey, multiple side dishes and several pies and cakes. Anyone who entered her kitchen never left hungry for nourishment of the stomach, mind or heart. She could always shine a light in dark times and offer hope when things seemed hopeless. Her light will shine on through all that had the privilege of knowing Arlene in this life.
“People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.”
Her enduring love will live on through her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Duane Hudson, a hard working (Super Farmer!); her parents, Everett Joseph Jaecques & Emma Elisha La Peere; brothers, Richard (Maggie) Jaecques, Gene (Hazel) Jaecques, & Robert Jaecques; Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
