Arreta Violet (Friedly) Fowler, age 91, of Moberly, MO, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Arreta was born July 8, 1933, in Versailles, MO, to Walter and Buelah Friedly. She was one of six children, including two sisters and three brothers. On April 5, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Fowler. They had three children, Kenneth, Pamela, and Gary. Over the years, their family continued to grow, with 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Throughout the years, Arreta stayed busy with many hobbies including basket weaving, candle making, and painting. She loved to play golf and according to one story, missed a hole-in-one by just two blades of grass. Another sport she enjoyed was bowling and once missed a perfect game by one strike.
More than anything, Arreta loved her family. She loved talking to them and keeping up with everyone’s activities, regardless of distance. While living in Arkansas, she looked forward to having her grandchildren visit. She would keep everyone busy hiking up Sugar Loaf Mountain, taking tennis lessons, feeding the carp, and of course, playing lots of golf at the real course and miniature courses. She always kept the VCR tapes of Fraggle Rock and other movies that became part of the tradition of staying at Grandma’s house.
Arreta was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; one grandchild; and one great grandchild.
She is survived by her husband, Paul, of the home; her kids, Kenny (Danah) Fowler, of Milan, MO, Pam (Alan) Knaebel, of Paola, KS, Gary (Gina) Fowler, of Moberly, MO; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. We will all miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
