Betty Jean Hamilton

May 11, 1947 — August 21, 2014

Betty Hamilton, 67, of Moberly died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Moberly Nursing and Rehab following a short hospitalization. She had been a resident of the nursing facility for 13 years. She was born May 11, 1945 in Fulton, Missouri. Betty was the youngest of nine children. At approximately eight years old, she was adopted by Roy and Doris Hamilton of Madison and lived the rest of her life in and around the Moberly area. She attended Middle Grove and Moberly schools and was a member of North Park Baptist Church in Moberly. Before her incapacitation, Betty maintained an apartment in Moberly and worked for several restaurants in the area, the last being Burger King. She also worked at the Sheltered Workshop for some time. In her younger years, Betty enjoyed doing paint by numbers and watching game shows on TV. Betty had a strong sense of family and enjoyed traveling with her parents or visiting her brother and sister and getting to know her nieces and nephews. She really enjoyed eating out. Her favorite foods were fried chicken and butter pecan ice cream with KFC being her favorite restaurant. She could put other family members to shame with her ability to remember names, addresses, and phone numbers. As Betty’s health declined, you could always count on her ready smile to light up the room and her whole face when she saw you, and this continued right up to the end. Betty is survived by her step-mother, Ruth Hamilton of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Virginia Bargar of Centralia, Missouri; nephews: Glendale Hamilton of Centralia, Missouri; and Samuel Lutes of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and nieces: Charlotte Logan of Columbia, Missouri; Audra Hamilton of Englewood, Florida; Lily Phelps and Amy Lutes of the Lake of the Ozark area. She is also survived by other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, siblings including Benny Hamilton and Kathryn Lutes, two nieces and one nephew. Graveside services will be held on August 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m at the Centralia City Cemetery, Centralia, Missouri under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Memorial contributions may be made to North Park Baptist Church, 401 Franklin Ave., Moberly, Missouri 65270.
