Bill “Gunny” Bernand, 73, of Moberly, passed away May 31, 2016. He was born July 14, 1942 in Moberly, MO to Roland Bernand and Cecelia Bledsoe Bernand. In November of 1982 in Bettendorf, IA he married Barbara Hotle who survives at home.
Bill entered the Navy directly after high school and served his country honorably for eight years.
Bill enjoyed camping and spending holidays with his family. The men loved to fish and all camping trips ended with a big fish fry.
He and Barbara traveled to Northern California to see the big redwood trees and parks in Montana: Glacier, Yellowstone and Yosemite.
He was always interested in Native American customs and culture as he was part Cherokee.
In later years, his health deteriorated and he accepted the fact that kidney dialysis would be his future. He always enjoyed talking with the medical personnel and tried to be upbeat about all the needle punctures.
Those preceding him in death are his parents, his stepfather Eugene Edmunds; brother Gary Edmunds and stepson Tim Paisley.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by two brothers and a sister; six children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, extended family and friends.
