Carolyn Vogler, of Moberly, MO, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, at Moberly Regional Medical Center.
Carolyn Rose Greening was born November 3, 1930, in Shelby County, Missouri, to Charles and Agnes (Reardon) Greening.
She was a 1948 graduate of Hunnewell High School in Shelby County. Carolyn’s father would often play banjo at tavern dances and she learned to play guitar and sing. She and her siblings would entertain themselves and others with music.
While working at a restaurant after graduating high school, Carolyn met Marvin Vogler, who had moved to Shelbina to work at a lumber company. They married December 29, 1951, and had just shy of 70 years together before he preceded her in death.
Carolyn had various jobs over the years including child care in her home, Motorola in Quincy, IL (1971), lunch program at Moberly High School (1974-76), and Director of the lunch program at St.Pius X School (1976-1995). Yes, she was the beloved Lunch Lady! She was kind to all students.
A woman of many talents, Carolyn loved to craft, sew and cook. She was a fun mom who loved card games, bluegrass festivals and playing her guitar. After retirement, she joined a band of fellow gray-haired friends and they played gigs for free at nursing homes. She was ever devoted to family and instilled into her children the importance of gathering together as a family. Carolyn’s faith was a key part of her life. She was a member of St.Pius X Catholic Church.
Carolyn Vogler was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Agnes Greening, Spouse; Marvin Vogler, Sisters; Theresa Smoot, Pauline Wood, Eileen Wester, brothers; Bob Greening, Bill Greening, son-in-law; Cliff Smith and grandson, Jason Houtchens.
She is survived by her children; Patricia Smith of Kirksville, MO, Penny Henry of Moberly, MO, Peggy (Anthony)Aragon of Colorado Springs, CO, and Paul (Daisy) Vogler of Moberly, MO.
Grandchildren; Bryan Smith of Staufenberg Germany and his daughter, Alexandra Smith, Jaime Cribb (Brian Steigerwald) of Orlando, FL, Kelly (Troy) Frank of Linn, MO and their children Maya and Colton, Allison (Cody) Carney of Paris, MO and their children Knox, Nora, Evie and Aden, Aaron (Elly) Henry of Columbia, MO and their children Scarlett Valvo and Gracie Henry, Heather Swaisgood (Garth Williams) of Colorado Springs, CO and their children Noah Swaisgood and Grayson Williams, Michael Aragon (& Katelyn Ryan)of Colorado Springs, CO, David (Noreena) Vogler of Two Hills, Alberta Canada and their son Ryker, Kyle Mayo of Moberly, MO and daughters Kylie Mayo and Aubrey Potter. Numerous nieces and nephews and friends including Fred Pfaff of San Diego, CA who lived in the Vogler home a while and is considered a son.
Carolyn never spoke a harsh word about others. She was loved by many and will be missed.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Moberly. Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m.
