Catherine Marie Grover passed away on October 9, 2013. Catherine was born January 12, 1923 to Johanna and Basil Quamby. She lived in St. Louis until age 10, when her family moved to Wellsville, Missouri. Catherine attended Harris Grade School and graduated from Wellsville High School. She then attended Kirksville State Teacher’s College, and taught school in Wellsville. On October 28, 1945, she married Alan James Grover, also of Wellsville, and to this union, three children were born: Patricia, Sharon, and Richard. As a result of Alan’s career with the Social Security Administration, they lived in Baltimore, Maryland, Raytown, Missouri, and Hannibal, Missouri. In 1960, they moved to Moberly, Missouri. Catherine worked for and retired from the Social Security Administration both in Moberly and Columbia, and for Home Health Services in Moberly. She was also a substitute teacher in the Moberly School District and librarian at the Moberly Public Library. Alan died in 1997 and Catherine moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 2001 to be near her children and grandchildren. She was an expert quilter and seamstress, an excellent cook, an avid vegetable and flower gardener, and a much loved grandmother and great grandmother. She made numerous heirloom quilts for her family and was known for her wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Catherine had a strong Christian faith. She was a former member of the Sweet Springs Baptist Church, Huntsville, Missouri. She was a kind and gracious woman who valued her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Patricia and Terry Taylor, Wichita, KS; Sharon and Bruce Jankowski, Leawood, KS; Richard and Susie Grover, Kearney, MO; by her grandchildren Stephanie (Russ) Rymer, and Brad Taylor, Elizabeth (Josh) Shuart, Dennis Grover; and by great grandchildren Sam and Will Rymer, Julia Taylor, and Anna Catherine Shuart. She is also survived by her brother Donald Quamby (Doris) of Wellsville and her sister Mary Jane Walker of Martinsburg, as well as beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 12:00 PM, with services at 1:00 PM at Million Taylor Funeral Home, Moberly, Missouri. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
