Dale R. Smith, 87, of Columbia, formerly of Moberly, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018. Dale was born to James E. and Bessie (Jones) Smith on April 29, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri. He served his country in the U.S Navy. Dale and Shirley Alexander were married on October 3, 1953 and were going to celebrate 65 years of marriage. He was a former President of the Jaycees at two different times, former Lions Club member, and was member of Trinity Methodist Church of Moberly. Dale was the co-owner of Smith Refrigeration with his brother Bill for 40 years before retiring in 1994. He loved to sing and was a member of the choir at church and at the Terrace in Columbia. He enjoyed the lake and being near the water, he loved his family which included his children, grand children and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Smith; and 3 brothers. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Smith of Columbia, Missouri; sons: Carey Smith and wife Patty of Columbia, Missouri, and Marty Smith and wife Mary of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Virginia Smith of Winfield, Kansas; brother, Ronald Smith and wife Janet of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; sister, Dorothy Denney and husband Emmerson of Centralia, Missouri; grandchildren: Keith, Kimberly, Corey, Blake, Emily, Kara, Tanner, Allie, Kristen, Kyle and Katelyn; many nieces and nephews; as well as very special friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Thieme officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, Missouri.
