Danny William Avery

Danny William Avery, age 73, of Moberly, Missouri, peacefully passed away, June 16, 2023, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia, MO.

Dan was born on April 4, 1950, in Moberly, Missouri, to William Robert and Helen Virginia (Roberts) Avery.

He graduated from Sunnydale Academy in 1968; he also attended Moberly Junior College. He married Elaine Williams on May 18, 1974, at the First Baptist Church, in Moberly, MO.

He honorably served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Commendation Medal w/60 Device and 2 O/S Bars and a Good Conduct Medal.

Dan worked at the Moberly Monitor Index, as Circulation Manager for 10 years, DuPont for 10 years, Isle of Capri Casino, Booneville, as supervisor of  Food & Beverage for 10 years, WC’s and Shades, then retiring in 2010. Dan enjoyed spending time with family, decorating, camping and loved being around people and going to the casino. Dan was also past Commander of VFW Post 2654.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, James “Sonny” Avery and sister, Linda Howard.

Dan is survived by his wife, Elaine Avery, brother, David Avery of Moberly, MO, Stephen (Nancy) Avery,  of Troy, MO, Nancy (Kenny) Brandow, of Moberly, MO and Anna “Jan” (Ron) Wilson, of Moberly, MO., brother-in-laws, Vernon Williams, of Jacksonville, FL, and Keith (Terri) Williams, of East Palatka, FL, Thomas Howard, of Moberly, MO, sisters-in-law, Lesley Newby- Westbrook of Keller, TX and Jeanette Givens (William), of Huntsville, MO, Gail Williams of Moberly, MO, Ellen Avery, of Moberly, MO and several nieces and nephews.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Inurnment will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO, at a later date.

Memorial Contributions can be made to VFW Post 2654 or the Assistance League to the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, MO.
