David Merritt Allen, age 74, of rural Huntsville, MO, passed away November 29, 2022, at his home.
Dave was born on November 26, 1948, in Bloomington, IL to Delwyn Merritt Allen and Freda Bell (Gaultney) Allen. He graduated from Gibson City High School and from Northern Illinois University in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in History.
Dave continued with his first love, farming. He went on to travel the country doing environmental cleanup. While working in California, he met and married Kathleen.
He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corp from February 1969 until October 1970 as E4 Corporal and serving as a tank commander in Viet Nam.
Dave was a member of the Huntsville Lions Club and enjoyed his time as an active member, volunteer much of his time. Dave was a very generous, giving man, who loved animals. He married Kathleen Wilson on November 27, 1987, in Reno, Nevada.
He enjoyed his dogs and cats, gardening (he grew the best sweet corn) and taking care of his farm. Dave was an avid KC Royals and KC Chiefs fan. His family and friends will always remember one of Dave’s happiest days when his Royals won the world series.
David is preceded in death by his mother, Freda Belle; father, Dell; nieces, Monica Taylor and Sheila Underwood.
Dave is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Huntsville, MO; sisters, Pricilla Lewis, New York, NY, Dorthy Jean, Moberly, MO; brother in law, Steve Wilson, CA; sisters in law, Marie Kelly, WA, Jenifer (John) Franco, WA, and Jackie Taylor, CA; a very special nephew, David (Stephanie) Taylor; nieces, Catherine Kelly (Toneyell), Jocelyn (Sophia) Wilson, Kelly Wyatt, CA, Patty Clark, WA, Christy (Paul) Ploussard,FL, Nanci (Bernard) DaGrace; nephews, Brian Kelly,WA, Daniel Kelly,WA, Pete Lewis-Mich; close friends, Rusty Wunderlich, Chris Kribbs, and Ted Foster; many extended family members and other family friends.
A service celebrating Dave’s life has been scheduled for Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at Kribbs Outfitters, 1852 County Road 1360, Cairo, MO. Directions to service as follows: Hwy 63 North to Cairo, turn west on Z for two miles, left on 1360, 2nd house on left.
