David Brown

d. July 23, 2016

David Glenn Brown, 91, died at Ravenwood Terrace in Moberly, Missouri. David was born February 12, 1925 in Ivanhoe, Oklahoma, the firstborn of E. Glenn Brown and Georgia B. Owens Brown. He was 10 years old when the Dust Bowl brought devastation to the family farm in Oklahoma. His family then moved to El Dorado Springs, Missouri where David graduated from high school. David served our country in the Army during WWII in the Philippines. Soon after the war, he met the love of his life, Doris A. Vickers, and they married August 4, 1948 in Dedrick, Missouri. David and Doris moved to Carthage, Missouri where their two children were born and David began his career as an MFA manager. The family moved to Moberly in 1965 where David proudly oversaw the construction of MFA in its current location at business 63 and 24 highways. He retired from MFA in 1985. David was involved in his community through Kiwanis, Optimists and the American Red Cross Blood Drive. He was a board member of the Moberly Housing Authority. Known for his firm handshake, he welcomed many in to the church doors where he faithfully served. He took up baking after retiring and delivered desserts wherever he went – in particular to South Park School staff every week. When he wasn’t baking, you could find David sitting in his sunroom contemplating the numerous birds stopping by his feeders. David had a candy dish. He insisted his visitors young and old take a handful for the road. During his last years at Ravenwood Terrace, he provided baggies with instructions to fill them up with candy. “It gives me joy”, he said, “it really does.” He loved his family and friends. His grandchildren were his absolute delight. Surviving are his daughter and her husband, Brenda and Mario Powell of Blue Springs, Missouri; grandchildren Andy (Olivia) Powell , Grain Valley, MO, Sara (Andrew) West, Ft. Collins, CO, John (Alison) Powell, Grain Valley, MO and Liz (Matt) Sievert, Kansas City, MO; great grandchildren Ryleigh, Davis and Addie Powell, Findlay and Allie West and Landon Powell; brother Gerald Brown, sister Marvalene Dennis and sister Darlene Anderson, all of El Dorado Springs, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his parents, brother Ray Brown and a son, Brent Brown, who died November 27, 1989. Services for David will be Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home in Moberly followed by interment in the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Red Cross, 431 E.
