Donald Clayton Coons

Donald Clayton Coons, age 94, of Moberly, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Aspire Rehab in Moberly, MO. Don was born on July 24, 1930 in Moberly, MO to Lawrence and Myrtle (Way) Coons.

Don graduated from Renick High School in 1949. He was united in marriage to Iola (Harlan) Coons on December 23, 1950 in Moberly, MO. He then went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Marine Corps as Private 1st Class from 1951 thru 1952.

Throughout his life Don worked as a butcher for Safeway, equipment operator for Twehous Excavating, was a home builder for Swiss Village Homes, as well as farming his entire life. Don always enjoyed being outside in the fresh air while working his fields, gardening, or mowing the lawn. He loved traveling throughout the United States and watching his St. Louis Cardinals.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Iola, and brother, Marvin. He is survived by 2 sons, Don W. (Karen) Coons, Branson, MO, Randy (Sheryl) Coons, Moberly, MO, and daughter Debra (Rick) Switzer, Moberly, MO. Grandchildren, David Coons, Kansas City, MO, Daniel Coons, St. Louis, MO, Stacy Griggs-Acton, Millersburg,MO, Molly Wyatt, Moberly, MO, Ricky Switzer Jr., Higbee, MO and Charity Hayes, Higbee, MO. Also survived by 13 Great Grandchildren as well as a host of extended family and close friends.

A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, MO. A private burial at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery, Jacksonville, MO will be held on Thursday.

Memorials in honor of Donald may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or American Legion Post #6, Moberly, MO.
