Donald “Pistol” L. Gunn, 92, of Moberly, Missouri passed away surrounded by family on April 22, 2022 at his home.
Pistol was born on June 19, 1929 in Fort Henry, MO to Ola Mae White and Hurley Allen Gunn. He married Bonnie Lou Mallory on July 4, 1955 in Moberly, MO.
He became a Railroad Engineer at Wabash Railroad, where he worked for more than 30 years. He also served as President of the local Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen..
Pistol honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1947 until 1948 as a Private First Class.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, taking care of his home and his dogs. His family and friends will always remember him as a good friend who was always willing to lend a hand to a friend in need.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Lou Gunn; parents, Hurley Allen and Ola Mae Gunn; seven siblings, Nadine Osbourne, Model Cooper, Martha Wilson, Erlene Stein, H.A., Gene and Joe Gunn; two grandsons, Nathan and Joshua.
Pistol is survived by his three children, Carol Gunn of Moberly, Greg Gunn and wife Tammy of Columbia and Daniel Gunn and wife Meg of Moberly; six grandchildren, Cyrus Wagel of Estelle Manor, NJ, Noah Darnell of Fulton, MO, Amanda Huber of Higbee, MO, Kayla McCollum of Sturgeon, MO, Jacob Gunn and Alaina Gunn both of Columbia, MO; one great granddaughter, Ivy Lou McCollum; one great grandson, Brantley Huber; sister, Barbara Burns of Texhoma, OK; extended family and close friends.
A Funeral service celebrating Pistol’s life has been scheduled for Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 12:00 p.m., at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly with full military honors to follow at the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
