Donald Ray Nickerson, Sr., 73, of Moberly, passed away at his home Friday, May 12, 2017. He was born September 25, 1943 in Salisbury, MO to Walter and Helen Nickerson.
Don served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was united in marriage 1962 in Moberly to Roxanne Wheeler. While coaching his children in softball and baseball, Don was loved and adored on and off the field by those who knew him. In later years, he especially loved watching his grandchildren at sporting events. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan. Don liked going to car shows where he spent his favorite pastime mingling and socializing with everyone. Don was a long-tenured route salesman for Double Cola before becoming a prominent businessman ultimately purchasing the distributorship. He was affectionately known as “Double Cola Don”. Upon retirement, Don purchased 7800 Taxi, and remained active until becoming ill.
Those preceding him in death are his parents, daughter Brenda Fletcher, grandson Don Curtis Fletcher, brother Roger Nickerson, sisters Donna McCreery and Linda Nickerson.
He is survived by his wife Roxanne of the home; children, Lori Humphrey (Perry) of Columbia, Pamela Renzelmann (Kevin) of Moberly, Rhonda Colley (James) of Harrisburg, Rae Bennett (Bruce) of Madison, Donnie Nickerson (LeaAnn) of Moberly, Darrell Nickerson, of Moberly; sons-in-law Larkin Bennett of Madison and Don Fletcher of Moberly; grandchildren, Jessica Carden of Moberly, C.J. Humphrey (Autum) of Auxvasse, Hillary Flood of Moberly, Haley Renzelmann (Erika) of Moberly, Kayla Cline (Jon) of LaPlata, Kimmy Webb (Brandon) of Columbia, Tyler Bennett (Allie) of Macon, Keleigh Bennett of Madison, Austin Nickerson (Teylor), Derrick Nickerson, Tori Nickerson, Peyton Nickerson, and Kensie Nickerson all of Moberly; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Wilma Stanfield of Columbia, Walter Nickerson (Donna) of Boonville, Vickie Griffith of Boonville, Larry Nickerson (Cathy) of Boonville, Clifford Nickerson (Viola) of Moberly, extended family and friends.
Services celebrating Don’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with interment to follow at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home.
