Doris Block, 84, of Jacksonville, MO, passed away in Big Fork, Montana on August 21, 2016.
Doris was born August 10, 1932 in London, England to Charles Dean Thomas and Emma Victoria Saward Thomas. After Doris’s father was killed in the war, her mother later remarried and the family moved across the pond to America.
Doris graduated from Madison High School and on October 23, 1949 in Moberly, MO she was united in marriage to Eldon Block. Doris was a long time member of the Cairo Baptist Church and was very active in the ministry and outreach of the church. She was a Grange member as well as a member of the local extension club. Doris was also very active in the Randolph County Democrat Committee. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and made many stocking caps, donating some to the hospitals for the newborn babies. She was an avid Greyhounds fan and also enjoyed birds of all kinds, but was especially fond of hummingbirds. Her family says she was the best blackberry cobbler maker in Randolph County!
Those preceding Doris in death is her husband Eldon; parents Charles and Emma; stepfather Benton Dickerson; and brother Charles Thomas.
She is survived by her siblings; Vickie Ancell of Moberly, Shirley Wright of West Plains, Violet Winn (Gary) of Moberly, Thomas B. “Dickie” Dickerson (Amy) of Holliday, and Dennis Dickerson (Brenda) of Centralia; children, Cheryl Prange (Gary) of Cairo, Rick Block (Donna) of Ft. Madison, IA, Randy Block (Lottie) of Big Fork, Mt; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cairo Baptist Church. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be Friday, August 26, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home.
