Emmy Lou Holman

March 12, 1925 — October 22, 2021

Emmy Lou Holman, 96, a lifelong Moberly area resident, passed away Oct. 22 at her home at Meadow Ridge Senior Living.

She was born March 12, 1925, the daughter of Thomas and Emma Leta Tuggle. She was married for 71 years to James W. Holman, Jr., who died in 2016. The couple were parents to four children: David of Gig Harbor, WA; Dan (Karen) of Salem, SC; Dean (Pam) of Moberly; and Mindy Miner (Jon) of Rockford, MI.

She was grandmother to two grandsons, Jacob (Rachel) Holman and Ben Holman, and six granddaughters, Emily and Erin Miner, Eliza (Jesse) Angarano, Holly (Rob) Roseman, Corey (Mike) Zipperer and Katy Holman. She also leaves 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Holman excelled at her life’s ambition, being a homemaker. She was an accomplished cook and her legacy of delicious family recipes will be enjoyed for generations. She will undoubtedly be present every holiday season as her famous fruitcake and mincemeat are recreated in family kitchens across the country. Her “green thumb” with indoor and garden plants always made her home and lawn inviting. She and her husband enjoyed entertaining family and friends for many years at their home on Thomas Hill Lake. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Holman also worked part-time in the office of her husband’s laundry business and at Tedford’s Florists.

She and her husband were members of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her ashes will be entombed with her husband’s at Oakland Cemetery. A private family celebration of her life is planned for later.
