Ernest Eramon Whisenand, age 82, of Higbee, MO, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 , at the University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Ernest was born in Newton, Iowa, on February 28, 1941. He was the son of the late Thame and Ruth (Scoville) Whisenand. He married Judy (Janson) on December 27, 1963 , in Kirksville, MO.
Ernest was a hard worker and held several positions during his career. He worked for banks in Higbee and Fayette, then went to work as an investigator for Equifax and worked there for over 30 years and retired from there. He then went to work for the Department of Social Services as a benefits specialist. He retired from the state in 2018, and then went back to work part-time, where he was still currently employed.
He honorably served in the United States Army Reserves in the 5503rd Medical Unit and retired as a Command Seargent Major after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Higbee Baptist Church. He currently served on the Board of Directors of the Christos Center (Foodbank) and the Higbee Senior Center Board. He previously served over 20 years on the Higbee School Board.
He was a selfless man who above all loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed reading novels, especially westerns. He had a talent for writing books, poetry and loved writing tribute stories for co-workers and family. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed the numerous wildlife on his farm.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Judy Whisenand of Higbee, MO, son Tim (Melissa) of Higbee, MO, Dan (Sharon) of Higbee, MO and James (Shelly) of Cairo, MO. Grandchildren, Mark Whisenand, Preslee and Jack Brubaker and one brother, Robert Whisenand of Higbee, MO, and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date for the family. Burial will be at the Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery. If desired, donations can be sent to Higbee Senior Center, 205 S. Railroad Street, Higbee, MO 65257.
