Ethel Eva Wolverton

Ethel Eva Wolverton of Jacksonville Mo passed away September 18th, surrounded by her loving family. Ethel was born August 8, 1938 to L. E. and Letha Dawsey of Port Barre, LA. Ethel attended school in Port Barre, and was active in the Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher. After graduating high school, Ethel moved to her Aunt and Uncles in Lake Charles, LA to attend college and study for her degree in education. While there, she met Richard Wolverton, a native of Kansas, who was serving his country in the Air Force. Ethel always said it was love at first sight. They were married two months and two days later. Their marriage lasted almost 62 years. Sadly, Richard preceded her in death, February of this year. They continued to live in southern LA and Ethel became a stay home mom to their three daughters. In 1968 Richard moved his family to his home town Montana, Kansas. Ethel quickly began a new life of living on a farm. Ethel had a love for animals. Often, she would bottle feed a motherless baby animal. They had many pets over the years. Ethel was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for herself, and her daughter's. She enjoyed making rag rugs and many other crafts. They moved to Jacksonville MO in the early eighties, relocating for Richards job. Ethel worked at Walmart in Moberly for 20 years in the fabric department. Once retired, she and Richard enjoyed traveling, visiting almost all of the United States . In addition to her husband, Ethel is preceded in death by her mother Letha, and father L.E. Dawsey. Her two older sisters, Leoma Fontenot and Lillie Ledet all of Port Barre, LA. Her brother in law Dean Wolverton of Camdenton, MO, sister in law Barbara Hoskins of Dennis, Kansas and two infant grandchildren Megan and Robert. She is survived by her daughter's, Deborah Wolverton of Jacksonville MO, Gail McGarrah of Harrison AR, and Cindy Andrews of Jacksonville MO. Her grandchildren, Laythan Cloke, Dawna Layfield, Emily Grey, Amanda Harris and Adrian Andrews. Great-grandchildren, Jordan Layfield, Landon Layfield, Nikolas Grey, Karli Grey, Emma Cloke, Wesley Harris and Ava Harris. She is survived by one brother, Leonard Dawsey of Port Barre, LA. and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Tuesday September 22, at 10:00 at Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery.
