Asleep in Jesus. Florine Frances Rathmann (86) was born on October 28, 1926 in Iowa Township, Iowa County, Iowa at the farm home of her parents Ernest and Anna (Brockshus) Baack. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church, Homestead, IA and received her elementary education at St. John’s parish school. After graduating from Marengo high school she began working in Cedar Rapids, IA. While working in Cedar Rapids she met Robert Rathmann. After the couple married in 1952 they moved to Mower County, Minnesota, where they bought land and farmed for 25 years. Here three sons were born: Rodney, Franklin, and Paul. In 1977 the family relocated to rural Cairo, MO. Florine was an active member of the Lutheran church, serving in various capacities through the years in a number of organizations. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, family member, and friend; an excellent cook; and a lover of God’s creation. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, brother Rolyn, grandson Nicholas, and step-granddaughter JoAnna. Florine is survived by sons: Rodney (Dawn) of St. Louis, Franklin of Cairo, Paul (Brenda) of Jefferson City, three grandsons: Robert (Abigail) of Antioch, Il, Martin (Anna) of Indianapolis, IN, and Samuel of Emma, Mo; two step-granddaughters: Stacy Bandelier of Jefferson City and Nicole Dixon (Thomas) of Niagua; dear sister Alice (Heinz) Hoenecke of San Diego, CA, brother Dale (Connie) Baack of Homestead, IA, and sister-in-laws Elaine Freie of Newhall, IA, and Karen (Jim) Watt of Henderson, NV; and by five great-grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 3:30 p.m until 7:00 p.m at the Million Taylor Funeral Home of Moberly. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Moberly with The Rev. Dr. Ken Schurb officiating. Burial will follow at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly.
