Frederick Lewis Clapham

Frederick Lewis Clapham, 78, of Moberly, previously of Brookfield, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2022 at the Neighborhood in Columbia, MO with family at his side.

Fred was born on October 3, 1943 in Centerville, IA to J L. Clapham and Hazel Dailey Clapham. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army where he honorably serviced his country during the Vietnam Conflict from 1969 to 1971. Fred received a National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.

Fred had a strong work ethic and upon returning home began selling tires in Seymour, IA. A short time later he relocated to Brookfield, MO and took a position as a store manager for a furniture store. He and his wife, Joyce Mackey Clapham (whom he married on January 5, 1980) would later purchase the furniture store renaming it Fred and Joyce’s Brookfield Furniture. They spent 42 wonderful years together raising their family of seven children. After selling the furniture store, Fred decided he wasn’t quite ready to retire and went to work for F C Grace in Kidder, MO.

Fred was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Moberly and a 3rd Degree Knight. He was a past member of the Elks, Lions Club, and had a grand champion steer while in 4-H. Fred also served on the Pastor Parrish Community while in Brookfield and was treasure for the American Legion.

Fred was known for his strong faith and love of his family. He liked watching the Chiefs, deer hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed vacationing and loved watching his grandkids play ball.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, J. L. and Hazel Clapman and a grandson, Nathanial David Schwartze.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Joyce Clapham of Moberly, MO; children, Burdett and Joyce Wilson of Moberly, MO, Wendy and Mike Gicante of St. Louis, MO, Kevin and Lynn Wilson of Rapid City, SD, Greg and Jeanne Clapham of Cameron, MO, Vikki and Carl Schwartze of Sturgeon, MO, Ian and Kim Wilson of Brookfield, MO and Kimberly and Matt Ray of Trenton, MO; 20 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren with Baby Sheffield arriving in February of 2022.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church with inurnment to follow on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Deacon Burdett Wilson will lead a Rosary beginning at 8:00 p.m.
