Gary Wayne Davis, 75 of Moberly passed away Sunday, September 08, 2013 at the University Hospital in Columbia. Gary was born to the late Cressie Herbert and Mildred Berniece (Rutledge) Davis on April 6, 1938 in Macon County, MO. Gary served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1958. He worked for many years for the Moberly Water Department as a meter reader. He also was employed by Carter Memorials as a sandblaster and engraver. He was a longtime member of the Logan St. Church of Christ and a former member of the Eagles. Gary enjoyed treasure hunting with his metal detector, was a singer/songwriter in Nashville and became a chicken coop preacher at the age of 12 years old. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Paula Welch. Gary is survived by his son, Darren Davis (Lori) of Moberly; daughters: Phyllis Lambert and husband Eddie of Lake St. Louis; Teresa “Missy” Davis of Moberly; and Sarah Matheis and husband Keith of Moberly; brother, James Davis and wife Beth of Hawkeye, Mo; sister, Marilyn Christy and husband Roy of Kearney, MO; 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 4:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m at the funeral home. Burial will follow at College Mound Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to the Logan Street Church of Christ.
