Herbert E. Lawrence ”Junior”, 87, of Moberly, MO, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2021.
Herb was born on July 5, 1934 to Herbert E. Lawrence Sr. and Dorothy Schneider in Chillicothe, MO.
He graduated from Moberly High School in 1952 and Moberly Junior College in 1954. Herb earned a degree in business administration from the University of Missouri in 1956.
Herb and Mary Ramona (Mona) Sailer were married in Cape Girardeau, MO in 1956.
Herb was an employee and then became co-owner of Triangle Auto Supply in Moberly, and of several other locations in central Missouri including Big A Auto Parts in Columbia, MO. He retired in 2001. He was a member of the Missouri-Kansas Automotive Wholesalers Association, serving as president for a year.
Herb enjoyed being involved with Moberly Area Community College. He served as president for the MACC Alumni Association for two terms. He was a member of the Board of Directors when the Activity Center was built.
Herb was active in Moberly City affairs, including serving on the City Council for 12 years. He was instrumental in forming the Rollins Street Neighborhood Association serving in the roles of secretary and treasurer. Herb and his wife Mona, enjoyed working with children. They volunteered tutoring students with Project Jump Start for 13 years.
Herb was deeply religious and had strong faith. He was very active in ministries at St. Pius X Catholic Church which included re-establishing and continually updating the St. Pius X Church library and assisting with the management of St. Mary’s Cemetery for several years. He initiated the Funeral Mass Dinner service at St. Pius X about 40 years ago and sent bulletins and communications to shut-ins. Herb was a member of Knights of Columbus for 50 plus years. Both he and his wife taught Friendship Group classes and worked with the Youth Council for 18 years.
Herb was a caring person who regularly kept in touch with old friends and classmates and was always interested in their lives and activities.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Dorothy Lawrence.
Herb is survived by his wife, Mona Lawrence of Moberly, MO; sons, Scott Lawrence of Moberly, MO, Keith (Tracy) Lawrence of Lenexa, KS, Todd Lawrence of Overland Park, KS, Kyle (Jenny) Lawrence of Rocheport, MO; grandchildren, Destiny (Matt) Koch, Tiffany (Stephen) Clevenger, Jessica (Rob) Hegstrom, Jennifer (David) Welder, Kalyca (Kasey) West, Stephanie (Bobby) Boehme, Mackenzie (Kody) West, Mika (George) Emerson, and Noah Lawrence; 12 great-grandchildren with a 13th on the way; siblings, Judy Lawrence of Moberly, MO, Jim and JoAnn Lawrence of Helena, MT; nephew, Mike Lawrence; niece, Robin (Shane) Haux of Helena, MT; extended family and friends.
Herb would frequently give advice “sermons”, according to his children and grandkids with the hope that “someday they may remember some of it”. The legacy he leaves behind with his family is one of love and service.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church with inurnment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home.
A prayer service with Rosary will be led at the conclusion of the visitation.
Memorials in Herb’s honor are suggested to St. Mary’s Cemetery at 209 S. Williams St. Moberly, MO 65270.
