Herschell Sumpter, 82, of Higbee passed away on Friday November 28, 2014 at Boone Hospital in Columbia. Herschell was born to Rollin Foster and Edna Maurice (Kirby) Sumpter on September 16, 1932 in Moberly, Missouri. He married Barbara Purdy in June of 1951 and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Herschell was a truck driver for A.B Chance in Centralia for 44 years. As a hard worker, Herchell always kept busy with many other jobs throughout his career, such as: flipping houses, taking care of 27 different yards, cleaned churches, and sold cars .He was a member of the Higbee Baptist Church. Herschell was dedicated to his family and loved being with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Harold Sumpter in 1972 Herchell is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Sumpter of Higbee; children: Edith Buckman (Craig) of Centralia, Randy Sumpter of Higbee, Brenda Maldonado (Hugo) of Higbee, and Brian Sumpter of Higbee; brother, Gary Sumpter of Higbee; step-mother, Frances Louise Sumpter of Moberly; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and many people that loved him very much. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Higbee with Pastor John Bill Spilman officiating. Burial will follow at the Tucker Cemetery, South West of Higbee.
