Iona M. Pagett, 93, of Moberly, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at MRMC. Iona was born July 19, 1921 in Adair County, MO to Emil and Dorothy Dunham Vawter. Following high school graduation, she went to work in the Brown’s Shoe Factory. She married Denver Eugene Pagett who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the North Park Baptist Church. Iona’s passion in life was working, and she owned several restaurants. She and Mrs. Vena Tuley were partners in Dorsey’s Café in Moberly. She owned and operated Al’s Steakhouse and Hollywood Steakhouse for many years. Many people remember the good home cooked foods she served in her restaurants; Iona always enjoyed visiting with her many customers. She then worked at the original Don’s Restaurant, Senior American Multipurpose Center, North Village Park and the Randolph County Health Department when she was in her 80’s.
Those preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, and a sister, Virginia Hicks.
Iona was blessed to have a loving and devoted family. She is survived by her daughter, Jeannie Hicks and son-in-law Richard of Moberly; granddaughters Michelle Patton of Moberly, Melissa Callahan (Chris) of Jacksonville and Regina Gall (Kevin) of New Cambria; great grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly and Kayla Patton all of Moberly, Samantha, Tyler, Kacie and Sydney Callahan all of Jacksonville, and Davian and Gabe Gall of New Cambria; great-great grandchildren Callie Patton, Kiersten Tompson and Andrew Tompson, and extended family and friends.
A celebration of Iona’s life will be held at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of service.
