James Alfred Avery, 100, of Moberly passed away August 30, 2011 at Loma Linda Health Care. James was born March 21, 1911 in Fayette to Virgil L. and Anna J. (Proctor) Avery. James served in the Army during World War II, where he served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded 5 Bronze Stars for his service. He also worked as a custodian for the University of Missouri before retiring. He was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church. On September 23, 1948, in Moberly he married Eula South and she preceded him in death in 1983. He is survived by one son Russell Mallory of Kansas City, two daughters Earlene St. Clair of Clark and Shirley Mallory of Excelsior Springs; two sisters Leona Bowman of Salisbury, TN and Betty Ferguson of Yates; 26 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. he was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, five sisters and three daughters. Services will be Friday September 2, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Million-Taylor Funeral Home in Moberly. Burial will be at Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 12-2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Apostolic Pentecostal Church.
