James Elmer Boggs III

October 22, 1931 — January 25, 2014

James Elmer Boggs III, 82, of Higbee passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Moberly Regional Medical Center. James was born to James and Cora (Wilkerson) Boggs on October 22, 1931. He married Evelyn Woods on April 7, 1951 and were married for 62 years. James worked construction most of his life, retiring from Richardson and Bass of Columbia. He and Evelyn were the owner/operators of Boggs Grocery of Higbee for 26 years. James served as the Mayor of Higbee for two terms, a board member of Senior Housing, Charter member of the Higbee Lions Club, and was currently serving as an Alderman. He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn, of Higbee; children: James E Boggs (June) of Higbee, Rita Lyons (Tony) of Higbee, Janet Mealy (Bill) of Higbee, Brenda Dougherty (Harry) of Clark, Ernie Boggs Sr. (Tammy) of Higbee, Delmer “Bo” Boggs (Penny) of Moberly, Judy Kirschman of Prairie Home, and Trudy Dorman of Springfield, MO; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brothers: Jerry Boggs of Glasgow, Mo, and Charles Boggs of Otterville, MO; and sister, Dorothy Taylor of Boonville, MO. James was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mark Kirschman; brothers: Carl, William and Frank Boggs; sisters: Mary Lou Renfro, Elizabeth Robertson and Ida Mae Boggs. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Higbee. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m at the funeral home with Pastor John Bill Spilman officiating. Burial will follow at the Higbee City Cemetery. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Higbee Lions Club.
