Joe Baxter Davis, 93, of Moberly, previously of Clark passed away June 14, 2020 at Moberly Nursing and Rehab. He was born on August 10, 1926 in Clark, MO to Charles Baxter Davis and Stella (Ess) Davis.
Joe was a graduate of Renick High School. In September of 1950 he was drafted into the United States Army. Joe serving honorably, receiving a Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a United Nations Service Medal and a Purple Heart before his returning home in late August of 1952.
On August 2, 1951 he married Evelyn Louise Oldham. The two made their home and raised their three children in Clark, MO. Joe worked as a mechanic with one of his brothers for over 30 years while simultaneously helping his other brother farm. Family joked that his specialty was repairing the vehicles of first-time teen drivers. After retiring, Joe continued as both a mechanic and farmer on his own. He was a man who took pride in a job well done and instilled that work ethic in his children. Joe didn’t have to be a member of a committee to help his community. He was content to work behind the scenes whenever help was needed. When he had spare time, he enjoyed reading and gardening as well as tending to his yard and Evelyn’s roses.
Those preceding Joe in death are his parents and siblings; his beloved wife of sixty-six years and daughter-in-law, Wendy (Middleton) Davis.
Joe is survived by his children, Randy (Janice) Davis of Holliday, MO, Sherrie (Sherwood) Mann of Moberly, MO and David Davis of Madison, MO; grandchildren, Molly (James Bork) Davis of Clarence, MO, Pat (Ashley) Davis Holliday, MO, Beth (Greg) Kroes of Bevier, MO, Trevor (McKenzie) Davis of Madison, MO, Heidi (Lane) Martin of Thompson, MO and Tyler Davis of Madison, MO; great-grandkids: Jackson Davis, Owen, Amy, Morgan and Hailey Kroes and great granddaughter, Afton Davis arriving in September; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A graveside service celebrating Joe’s life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Cemetery, 1046 Hwy P, Clark, MO 65243. Memorial contributions in Joe’s honor are suggested to the New Hope Church Cemetery Association, c/o Bonnie Kisor, 3582 Hwy. NN, Moberly, MO 65270.
