Johanna Marie (JoAnn) Vitt, age 73, passed away September 26, 2018 at her home with family at her side. She was born in Quincy, IL on January 30, 1945 to Louis Bregach and Susanna Loewen Bregach. On August 10, 1968 JoAnn married George Vitt in Quincy, IL and the two spent 50 memorable years together. They lived in North Carolina while George served in the Army; after which they relocated to Moberly in 1969.
JoAnn was a teacher for over 35 years who touched the lives of thousands of children. Her faith was her foundation. She dearly loved her family and spending holidays with them. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time flower gardening, bird watching, and reading. She was an accomplished orator in her youth winning many awards. This passion continued with her reading at Mass and reading to her students. She felt her greatest accomplishment was being a grandmother.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband.
Survivors include her children, Aaron (Lisa) Vitt of Moberly, Kate-Ann (Dru) Buntin of Columbia and Molly (Colin) Malaker of Sturgeon; grandchildren, Kaylee Vitt and Lukas Vitt both of Moberly and Louis Malaker and Augustine Malaker both of Sturgeon; brother, William Bregach of Berthoud, CO; in-laws, Joe and Lori Vitt and Cathy and Ed Hughes all of Moberly, Pat and Ronnie Brown of Kansas City, MO and Larry and Susan Vitt of Broken Arrow, OK; extended family and many close friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. A rosary will be led at the conclusion of the visitation.
