John Edward Ames Jr.

John E. Ames, age 79, of Moberly, MO, went home to the Lord August 6, 2023, at Missouri University Hospital, in Columbia, MO.

John was born on January 23, 1944, in Rock Island, IL, to John and Maggie Ames. He graduated from Moberly in 1962 and retired.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army in 1965 as a private. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards with his friends and going to yard sales.

He is preceded in death by both parents, son, Robert Ames Adkisson, sisters, Francis, Mardell, Betty, Barb and Mary, brothers, Clarence, Terry and Billy.

He is survived by his children, Karen (David) Green, of Newport, AR, Kathy (Kevin) Lewis, of Canton, MO,  John Ames III (Karen) Adkisson, of Virginia Beach, VA, one sister, Bonita and one brother, Lawrence, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service celebrating John’s life has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel, Moberly, MO, with Interment to follow at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery, Jacksonville, MO. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at, Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel, Moberly, MO.
