John Gilbert Bowen Jr., 55, of Higbee, MO passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 18:42 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
He was born September 16, 1964 in Orange County, CA
John was a lifelong resident of the Randolph County area, moving there when he was just 12 years old. He attended Moberly Public schools.
He worked for Local 955 construction out of Rocheport, MO.
John and Lisa were wed in LaPlata, MO in 1989; the couple just celebrated their 30th Anniversary. He was an active member of the Family Life Fellowship Church in Moberly. In his free time, John loved to go hunting, searching for arrowheads and fishing with his son and grandson. Anyone who knew him, knew that John was the biggest Kansas City Chiefs fan, he never missed a game. He also, raced cars out at the Moberly Race Track for many years; he blew a lot of engines, rolled a lot of cars and won a lot of trophies.
John will be remembered for his big hearts and his giving nature; being generous to a fault. He would do anything for anybody without a moment of hesitation. He will also be remembered as the “Best Grandpa Ever”.
John Bowen is preceded in death by his step father, John Hopper; mother-in-law, Lila Willits; 2 sisters, Stacy and Jannette Bowen; 2 nieces, Jessi and Kelsey Bowen and nephew, Brandon Bowen.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa of Higbee; mother, Joyce Hopper of Moberly; children, Trevor (Brynn) Hayes of Huntsville, Amber (Kevin) Ridgeway of Columbia; grandchildren, Kenzie Dawson, Kylee Hayes and Karissa Hayes of Huntsville, Macey and Tristan Ridgeway of Columbia; siblings, Angie (Junior) Brock of Moberly; Barbara Henry of Salisbury, Tammy Bowen of Moberly, Scotty Bowen of Moberly, Jamie (Cheryl) Bowen of Moberly, Terry Bowen of the Lake of the Ozarks; brother-in-law, Tony Willits of Columbia; sister-in-law, Kim Willits of Moberly; extended family and close friends.
Services celebrating the life of John Gilbert Bowen Jr. will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Huntsville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home.
