Joshua Lee Berney, age 31, went to the Lord on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at his home in Palmyra, MO. He was born December 8, 1987 to Christopher Berney and Lynn Dooley in Moberly, MO. Josh attended St. Pius and Westran Schools, graduated from Westran in 2006. He studied turf management at Linn State Technical College and following that, he worked at several golf courses. He was a member of the Westran Ramblers 4-H club which began his interest in shooting sports, mainly archery. As a member of the Missouri 4-H archery team he participated in the 2002 4-H Shooting Sports Nationals at the N.R.A. Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where as a teen he joined the bell choir. Josh was a people pleaser and he made friends wherever he went. In 2012, he married Elizabeth Byrd and to this union, his son, Kyler Wayne Berney was born. Josh adored his son. He followed Nebraska Cornhusker football and other spectator sports. Josh enjoyed golfing, fishing (particularly for trout), archery (in which he won many trophies) and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved being with his fiancée, Samantha Brown, his son, Kyler and his stepson, Erik.
He is preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents, Lumir and Lillian Cerveny.
Josh is survived by his parents, Gary and Karen Hunt of Moberly, MO; fiancée, Samantha Brown of Palmyra, MO; son, Kyler Berney of Jefferson City, MO; stepson, Erik Fender of Palmyra, MO; family members, Chris Berney of Forrest City, AR, James Berney (fiancée, Tonya Roddy) of Holts Summit, MO, Doug Berney (Vicki) of Kansas City, KS, Theresa Hyatt (Stephen) of Moberly, MO, Stacey Ingersoll of Moberly, MO, Lindsey Overfelt (Matt) of Moberly, MO; nieces; nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
A celebration of Josh’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. An inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Josh’s honor are suggested to the family c/o Pathway Memorial Funeral Home, P O Box 367, Moberly, MO 65270 to establish a scholarship fund for Kyler Berney.
