Julian E. “Gene” Messick, 93, of Moberly passed away May 19, 2019 at Boone Hospital in Columbia. Gene was born November 4, 1925 in Cedar County, MO to Earl and Eunice Schmidt Messick.
He was a graduate of Eldorado Spring High School and was one of the last classmates living. Gene honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1945 until 1946 and was stationed in Korea. After that, he relocated to Moberly and accepted a position as a field supervisor for USDA for over 35 years.
On October 5, 1976 Gene married Marjorie Wright Messick in Moberly.
He was a past member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed being a deacon for many years. Gene was a gifted musician and a jack of all trades. He could fix anything and liked repairing watches, pocket watches and musical instruments.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Eunice; wife, Marjorie; daughter, Debbie Sue Messick; brothers, Marvin Messick and Marion Messick and sister, Maxine Messick.
Survivors include his children, Larry Messick of Columbia Falls, MT, Judy Nelson of Kalispell, MT and Connie Messick of Nevada, MO; stepdaughters, Carole Thomas of Rock Hill, NC and Denise Kreek of Moberly, MO; half-sister, Karren Neden of Carthage, MO; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Services celebrating Gene’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions in Gene’s honor are suggested to the donor’s favorite charity.
