Karen Denise Janssen

Karen Denise Janssen, 61, of Higbee, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.

Karen was born on July 11, 1962, in Columbia, Missouri, to Jack and Ruth (Noah) Sumpter. She graduated from Moberly Senior High and Moberly Area Community College with a degree in Computer Information Systems.

She married John Lee Janssen on September 18, 1982, in Higbee, Missouri.

She enjoyed motorcycles, horses, painting and camping. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her family and friends will always remember her as being very smart, hardworking and strong-willed.

She is preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Karen is survived by her husband, John Janssen of Higbee, MO; two sons, Nicholas (Deborah) Janssen of Cairo, MO and Adam Janssen of Higbee, MO; six grandchildren, Honey Janssen, Danny Janssen, Alaina Janssen, Aiden Janssen Evelyn Janssen and Navily Janssen; parents, Jack and Ruth Sumpter of Moberly, Missouri; four siblings, Judy Mudd of Moberly, MO, Phyllis Rodgers of Bryan, TX, Jack Sumpter of Madison, MO and Debbie Mattox of Moberly, MO; extended family and close friends.

A visitation celebrating Karen’s life will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, MO, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel.
