Laurie Marie DeLaney, age 41, of Moberly, MO passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at her home with family by her side.
She was born February 8, 1980 in Columbia, MO to Laura “Kay” (McCreery) (DeLaney) Snodgrass and Charles “Dave” DeLaney.
Laurie graduated from Moberly High School in 1998, completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Culver Stockton College in 2001 and her Master of Science at Washington University in St. Louis, MO in 2003.
She was a member of Central Christian Church of Moberly. She was also a member of Chi Omega sorority and most recently Altrusa International of Moberly. She was a co-chair of the Moberly Altrusa Literacy Committee and started Laurie’s Little Library. She also volunteered with the St. Louis Rugby Spartans and in 2009 for the D. C. Capitol Punishers. Laurie was also a huge supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the Greater St. Louis Chapter, and in honor of her grandmother, she established Team Me-Maw.
Laurie’s desire for helping others overflowed into all aspects of her life, especially her profession. She was a Senior Staff Occupational Therapist in Rehabilitation at the Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. In 2008, she returned to Missouri and worked as an Occupational Therapist at The Neighborhoods in Columbia, MO. With a desire to further her education, she went back to Washington University in St. Louis in 2014 and graduated with her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy in 2017. She then worked as a Program Coordinator and Occupational Therapist for Innovative Health and Wellness until February of 2021 until she was unable to work due to her illness. Laurie was highly devoted to her work and anyone who knew her knew she loved being able to help anyone and everyone that she could. Laurie will be greatly missed by many.
Loved ones preceding Laurie in death include her maternal grandparents, Betty (Riley) McCreery and Ralph McCreery; paternal grandparents, Margaret (Baker) DeLaney and Edgar DeLaney; uncle, Steve Embree; cousins, Rob Milby and Robyn (Milby) Grooms and fur baby, Bronx.
Survivors include her mother, Kay (Dennis) Snodgrass of Moberly, MO; father, Dave (Donna) DeLaney of Jefferson City, MO; sister, Lindsey DeLaney of Columbia, MO; half-sister, Kerrie DeLaney of Jefferson City, MO; step siblings, Will (Amy) Snodgrass of Ft. Collins, CO, Krystal Barnard of Columbia, MO, Kenny (Kristin) Hite of Massachusetts, Katie (Kyle) Shofler of Centerville, MO, and Kevin Hite of Jefferson City, MO, aunts, uncles, numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family and fur baby, Brooklyn.
A funeral and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Central Christian Church in Moberly, MO with interment to follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Madison, MO. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Everyone is advised to use the rear entrance on Fifth Street as front doors will be locked and everyone is encouraged to wear Laurie’s favorite color “purple”.
