Marvin Vogler

d. August 14, 2021

Marvin Francis Vogler, 92, of Moberly, MO passed away August 14, 2021 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Marvin was born May 11, 1929 in Benton County, MO to Herman and Viola (Purdy) Vogler.

He was a 1946 graduate of Lincoln High School and one year later joined the United States Air Force in July of 1947. During his time in the service, Marvin attended Airplane and Mechanic, Jet Propulsion School at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron 20th Air Base Group at Shaw Air Force Base, Sumpter, South Carolina. While there, he worked as a line mechanic for the flight line. Marvin served his country until June of 1950, when he was honorably discharged and received a good conduct medal.

Years later, he was incredibly humbled and honored to get to go on the Central Honor Flight to Washington D. C.

When Marvin returned home, he worked the wheat harvest in Kansas and then at a lumber company in Northeast Missouri for a number of years. While there, he met and married Carolyn Greening on December 29, 1951 in Shelbina, MO.

Marvin was never afraid of hard work and while at the lumber company he also worked as a service station attendant in Shelbina for 5 ½ years. Eventually he left both positions and began working for Uregas Company out of their Moberly, Kirksville and Quincy facilities. At the time that Uregas sold to Ferrell Gas, Marvin was an Operation Manager overseeing seventeen plants. Following the buyout, he went to work for Botkins Trucking Company where he remained employed until his retirement in May of 2011.

Marvin was a faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, with whom he loved spending as much time as possible.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris Porterfield and Mildred Robinett; one brother, Charles Vogler; son-in-law, Cliff Smith and grandson, Jason Houtchens.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Carolyn Vogler of Moberly, MO; children, Patricia Smith of Kirksville, MO, Penny Henry of Moberly, MO, Peggy (Anthony) Aragon of Colorado Springs, CO and Paul (Daisy) Vogler of Moberly, MO; grandchildren, Bryan Smith of Staufenberg, Germany, Jaime Lynn Cribb of Orlando, FL, Kelly (Troy) Frank of Linn, MO, Allison (Cody) Carney of Osceola, MO, Aaron (Elly Valvo) Henry of Columbia, MO, Heather Swaisgood and Michael Aragon both of Colorado Springs, Co, David (Noreena) Vogler of Alberta, Canada and Kyle Mayo of Moberly, MO; great grandchildren, Alexandra Smith of Staufenberg, Germany, Maya and Colton Frank both of Linn, MO, Knox, Nora, Evie and Aden Carney all of Osceola, MO, Noah Swaisgood of Colorado Springs, CO, Kylie Mayo and Aubrey Potter both of Moberly, MO and Scarlett Valvo of Columbia, MO; siblings, Henry Vogler of Cole Camp, MO, Jesse Vogler of Lincoln, MO and Melvin (Sally) Vogler of Knob Noster, MO; extended family and friends including Fred Pfaff of San Diego, CA, who he considered a second son.
