Mary Louise Chosich, 91, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on May 2, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois. Mary was born to Guy and Tressie (Townsend) Slay on June 13, 1923, in Lena, Mississippi. She and Bernard Chosich were married on October 3, 1944 in Mississippi. While Bernard was serving in WWII, Mary worked in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, at a production site for the Manhattan Project, later known for its production of materials used in atomic bombs. During her later years, Mary spent many long days working as a cashier for Kroger's. She retired from there after 20 years of service. Bernard was the love of her life and they spent 42 loving years together, making lasting memories and raising two boys, before preceding her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Eva Dee Warwick and Audrey Phillips. Survivors include her sons: Michael Chosich and wife Nancy of Girard, Illinois, and Richard Chosich and wife Pat of Tupelo, Mississippi; grandchildren: Christy Chosich(Carey Chandler) of Moberly, Missouri, Steve Chosich of St. Louis, Missouri, Jennifer Chosich (Chris Warthen) of Cabot, Arkansas, Cody Chosich of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Rachel Chosich of Tupelo, Mississippi; great-grandchildren: Katie Sloman (Nick) of Chatham, Illinois, Isaac Chosich of St. Louis, Missouri; Nick Oslica of Moberly, Missouri; Madeline Chosich of Cabot, Arkansas; Jack Chosich of St. Louis, Missouri; Ben Chosich of St. Louis, Missouri; Will Chosich of St. Louis, Missouri; Molly Chosich of Cabot, Arkansas; and William Chosich of Tupelo, Mississippi; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was a kind and strong women who was very determined and began the Chosich tradition of liking things her way. She had a love for shopping and working in her yard, maintaining it well into her 80’s. Mary’s empathy and kindness for friends and family was only rivaled by her love for the St. Louis Cardinals. With a face often lit by a smile, Mary was quick-of-wit and full of knowledge--from stain removal to batting averages. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Granite City, Illinois. She will be sadly missed by friends and family, but fondly remembered. Private family services will be held at Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly, Missouri. Burial will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. .
