Mary was born June 7, 1928, to Jack and Mary Lee (Miles) Prewitt. She was united in marriage to Robert Spangler on February 18, 1956, and they were the parents of Lee, Mary, and Rob.
Mary graduated from Kirksville Teachers College and taught in many rural schools in the area. Later she taught GED classes, was Director of a daycare, worked at Westlake’s and Jamieson’s Store. She was a member of First Christian Disciples of Christ Church for most of her life where she taught Sunday School years ago. Bob and Mary attended Antioch Church and were very active in the church for many years.
Mary is survived by her son, Rob Spangler (Huntsville) and daughter, Mary Herrin (Gary) of Moberly. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eddie Lutz, Jeremy Lutz (Cassie), Lance Suiter (Cherie), Matt Suiter (Emilee), Corey Powell (Erica), Kyle Oliver, Brittney Viefhaus (Daniel), Kailyn Oliver, Brett Spangler and Tiffany Spangler, and 15 Great Grandchildren. Her dog Gabriel which she called Puppy, Sister-in-law Betty Prewitt and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents, siblings (Robert, Jack, Everett, Mildred, and Yvern Prewitt), son and daughter-in-laws Lee and Judy Spangler and Sandra Spangler, grandchildren Shawn and Amanda Spangler, In-laws Clarence and Lillian Spangler, brother and sister-in-laws Mary Spangler, Sam and Darlene Cobb, Wilma Prewitt, and nieces Marilyn Beal, Beth Ann Barnett, Linda Coomes and Lory White.
Services celebrating Mary’s life will be held Friday, April 19, 2024, at First Christian Church at 12:00 p.m. with interment at Antioch Cemetery to follow. Reverend Jay Self will be officiating the service. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until the time of service. Memorial contributions in Mary’s memory are appreciated to the First Christian Church, 300 East Coates Street, Moberly, MO 65270.
