Max Cottingham Meals, 91, Independence, MO passed away Aug. 10, 2014. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Services will be at 2 pm, Thur. at Million-Taylor Funeral Home in Moberly, MO with Brother Kevin Keeling officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 pm before the service in Moberly. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Madison, MO. The family requests that you buy a deserving veteran a meal in Max’s honor. Max was born July 29, 1923 in Moberly and graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II where he fought in the European Theater and enjoyed telling stories of his war experiences. He was a guard at the Lake City Ammunition Plant for thirty years before retiring in 1984. He enjoyed studying genealogy, coin collecting, reloading ammunition and shooting. He was a member of VFW Post #1000. Max was preceded in death by nine siblings and his granddaughter, Christy Lea Mitcham on July 31, 2014. He is survived by his wife Betty Meals of the home; daughter Margaret Johnson and husband Bob, Independence, MO; sons Harold Max Meals, Springfield, MO; Sam Meals, Independence, MO; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers: Derek Johnson Lucas Meals Terry Dean Apel D.J Meals Tony Owens Robbie Meals.
