Former Twelve Mile resident Maxine Rosalind (Johnson)Hurt Hatchel, 94, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015 in Jefferson Manor, Kokomo, Indiana. Born November 14, 1921, in Twelve Mile, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Rosa Gustafson Johnson. On June 26, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she was married to Dennis E. Hurt who preceded her in death on February 13, 1980. On Sept. 10, 1994, in Springfield, Illinois, she was married to William W. Hatchel, who survives. A 1939 graduate of Metea High School, Maxine was retired from civil services. Maxine was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Florissant, Missouri. She loved raising roses in her garden. Maxine also enjoyed fishing and bowling. She was a member of several bowling leagues. Surviving with her husband are one brother, Wayne Johnson of Creely, Colorado; step-son, Dennis E. Hurt of Moberly; step-grandson, Daniel Hurt of Moberly; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Violet Emery, Ruth Salanders, Erma Berth and Lois Jean McCrea; and her brothers Kenneth, Everett and Carl Johnson. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oakland Cemetery in Moberly with Pastor Jim Crooks officiating under the direction of Million Taylor Funeral Homes.
