Melvin Milo McGee, born March 14, 1927 in Moberly MO to Earl Wayne McGee and Emma Meriam (Asplin) McGee, died November 1, 2014 in the emergency room at Moberly Regional Medical Center. He was married to Shirley Jean Courrier on November 29, 1958 at the Presbyterian Church in Moberly. His wife is a member of First Baptist Church in Moberly and he attended that church with her for many years. Two children were born to the marriage: Michael Wayne (Charisse Moutray) McGee, California, MO; Tracie Lee (Chris) Brandow, Lenexa, KS. He has one grandchild, Meghan Michelle Hamline, Independence, MO. Melvin graduated from lower division of Moberly Junior College in 1945; later attended some classes at the college; enlisted in United States Navy in 1945 and was stationed at a military base in the Philippines. He attended Coyne Electrical in Chicago, IL after discharge from the service and worked as a lab technician at Peabody Coal Company at Clifton Hill plant office from 1947 to1952. He started work as a telegrapher for the Wabash Railroad Company in 1952 and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as a clerk in June of 1996. He was a member of Moose Lodge 776 in Moberly and NARVRE Unit 165 in Moberly. He always looked forward to the springtime when he could start plants in his greenhouse to later transplant to his garden. He was especially happy during the gardening season. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and one brother who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchild, and a brother-in-law, Ronald G. Elsberry of Moberly, as well as several nieces and nephews. At his request, the body was cremated and there will be no traditional service. He will be inurned at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Jacksonville, MO on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The procession will leave the funeral home at 12:40 p.m. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Central Missouri Honor Flight, 1400 Forum Blvd., Ste. 38, Box 334, Columbia, MO 65203.
