Melvin Max Wheeler

Melvin (Mel) Wheeler, age 71, of Cairo, Missouri passed away surrounded by family on October 28, 2023, at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Mel was born on July 27, 1952, in Kirksville, Missouri to Max Wheeler and Janet (Gravit) Wheeler.

Mel graduated from Schuyler R-I high school in Lancaster, Missouri. He worked in various jobs, but the one he most enjoyed was with Heetco, where he worked as a propane delivery driver for several years.

He married Kathy Clark in Ottumwa, Iowa. Three children were born from this union.

Mel was HAM Radios enthusiast and was involved with training and testing, loved to learn how to DIY fix ups watching YouTube and being outside on his partner Nancy’s farm.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son Christopher, son Dusty, and grandsons Malcolm and Austin Tolle.

Mel is survived by his partner, Nancy Bragg of Cairo, MO, brother Bruce Wheeler of Kansas City, daughter Tisha (Marion) Tolle of Lake Village, Indiana, daughter-in-law Sarah Wheeler of Princeton, Missouri, granddaughter Rachelle Tolle of Charlotte, North Carolina, Nancy’s grandchildren and great grandchildren who considered Mel as grandpa and extended family and friends.

A memorial to honor Mel’s life will be held at a later date to be announced.
