Norval Freeman Van Houten, 84, of Moberly passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at his home. He was born October 22, 1931 to Norval Farrington and Margaret Fetter Van Houten in Macon, MO. On September 17, 1950 he married Juilane Ann Chevalier and they spent the next 65 years in the Moberly area. Freeman honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean War. He made his living as a co-owner of Modern Equipment Co. of Moberly. Freeman enjoyed quail hunting, bowling and was active in Boy Scouts. He was a devoted family man and very active in his church. He served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon, an Elder and most recently an Elder Emeritus in the Disciples of Christ Church. Those preceding Freeman in death are his parents and his brother, Donald Van Houten. Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Juilane of Moberly, MO; his children, David (Marcy Hilton) Van Houten of Olathe, KS, Cheryl (Robert) Cheek of Moberly, MO, Scott (Angela) Van Houten of Moore, OK and Lewis (Mary Ellen) Van Houten of Moberly, MO; grandchildren, Justin (Cristine) Cheek of Oklahoma City, OK, Lindsey Cheek of Denver, CO, Hillary (Lucas) Appling of Moberly, MO, Erika (Dustin) Holzinger of Moberly, MO, Diana Van Houten and William Van Houten both of Moore, OK; great grandchildren, Kimberlin Cheek and Caden Cheek of Oklahoma City, OK and Jaxson Appling of Moberly, MO; extended family and friends. Services celebrating Freeman’s life will be held Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Inurnment will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Freeman’s memory are appreciated to the First Christian Church, 300 East Coates St., Moberly, MO 65270.
