Reta Mae Smith, age 89, of Moberly, MO passed away peacefully at Monroe Manor in Paris, MO on March 3, 2023.
Reta was born on December 27, 1933, Edina, MO to Clayton Goodwin and Theresa (Bruegenhemke) Goodwin.
Reta graduated school from St. Joseph Catholic High School. Reta was employed at Toastmaster in Macon, MO, where she worked for more than 30 years. Reta also owned and operated Leo’s Place in Jacksonville, MO for many years with her late husband, Leo Smith. Reta married Leo Smith on February 7, 1951, in Edina, MO.
Reta enjoyed many hours in her beautiful flower gardens. She was always up for a game of Rummikub or Dominoes and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Her family and friends fondly remember the large family dinners she hosted on Sundays, especially her fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Reta had a warm smile, a loving heart, and always gave the best hugs. She loved bird watching and had many pets, including her beloved dogs, Puggy, Tippy, and Sugar.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Smith, daughter, Brenda Hunter, daughter, Debbie White, brother, Richard Goodwin, sister, Lois Ann Rice, sister, Betty Kote, brother, Kenneth Goodwin and her parents, Clayton Goodwin and Theresa (Bruegenhemke) Goodwin.
Reta is survived by her son, Jeff Smith, of Huntsville, MO, grandchildren, Catherine Ferguson, Cairo, MO, David (Bridget) Ryan, Cairo, MO, Carrie Smith, Moberly, MO, Crystal Clark, Lee’s Summit, MO, Lawrence Paul (Jessica) Dale, Moberly, MO, Alicia Hunter, Harrisburg, MO and Kayla (Mark) Nivert, Moberly, MO and twelve great granchildren.
A visitation has been scheduled for Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A celebration of life will take place Sunday, March 19, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. Inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery in Moberly, Missouri.
