Richard Laverne Davis, age 78, of Higbee , Missouri, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Aspire Health and Rehab of Moberly, Missouri.
Richard (RL) was born on October 6, 1946, in Leonard , Missouri, to Oliver and Dorothy (Robertson) Davis. He graduated from LaPlata High School in 1964. He then worked for Banquet Foods and Toastmaster until moving to Quincy, Illinois, in the 70s. He worked at Electric Wheel. He married Debra Bentley on January 20, 1973, in Quincy, Illinois. In 1983, they moved to Moberly, Missouri. The family moved to a farm near Higbee in 1985, and Debbie continues to reside there. In 1985, Richard began working at the Moberly Correctional Center for Men. He held that position until he retired in 2010.
RL enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, spending time with his grandkids, horses, and going to visit the Amish country. We will always remember him as a wonderful prankster and a hardworking man.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Oliver and Dorothy Davis; and brothers, Dennis and Wayne Davis.
RL is survived by his wife, Debra, of their home in Higbee, Missouri; son Alan (Julie) Davis of Atlanta, Missouri; son Tony (Erin) Davis of Moberly, Missouri; granddaughter Michelle Bentley of Moberly, Missouri; grandson Derek Davis of Huntsville, Missouri; three step granddaughters, Joie Holden of Houston, Missouri, Winter Lee of Houston, Missouri, and Summer Proctor of Atlanta, Missouri. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister. They are Raymond (Peggy) Davis, Moberly, Missouri; Larry (Marie) Davis, Atlanta, Missouri; James Davis, Atlanta, Missouri; and Daisy Rowland, Memphis, Tennessee.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
