Richard D. Hall, 88, Joplin, formerly of Moberly, passed away on June 28th at Wildwood Care Center in Joplin. The son of Bessie Reiner Hall and James L. Hall, Richard was born in Macon in 1932. He is proceeded in death by his parents and 10 siblings, his wife Mary Elizabeth Hall, his second wife, Rita Rogers Hall and his third wife, Martha Crosswhite Hall. Richard was a lifelong learner and educator. He was proud to be the first of his family to attend and graduate from college. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Physical Science from the Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, and went on to receive both a Masters and Specialists degrees in Secondary School Administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Richard began his teaching career in Marceline in 1962 before moving to Moberly to teach biology. In 1968, he became principal of Moberly High School following a brief tenure as Assistant Principal. Richard retired from his career in education in 1989 as an administrator with the Kirksville Public Schools. Many former students have credited their love of science and determination to attend college to his influence and mentoring. Prior to completing his education, Richard worked a variety of jobs including chemist at both the Peabody Coal Mine and McGraw Edison Lab, train and road service with the Wabash Railroad, and at one time delivered bread to Macon from Gillan’s Bakery in Moberly. This job led him to meet his future wife, Elizabeth. In addition to his work in education, Richard also obtained his real estate broker’s license and owned a real estate business and later worked for Century 21 in Moberly. He also raised registered dogs and operated a small cattle farm west of Cairo. Richard’s family will remember him as a hard worker, a proud family man, a dedicated MIZZOU alumnus, and a man of great integrity. Richard is survived by a brother, Bill (Margaret) Hall of Macon, two daughters; Debbie (Mike) Dunseith of Joplin, Diana (Randy) Taylor of Moberly and Dr. David (Kathy) Hall of Maryville, Il. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 step sons and 2 step daughters. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. with David Hall officiating.
