Richard Lake

d. July 27, 2021

Richard Joseph “Dick” Lake, 67, of Madison passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2021 at his home.

He was born on September 9, 1953 in Moberly, MO to Wilber Lake and Ruby
Burnett Lake. Dick was a graduate of Madison High School and obtained a
Bachelor of Science from North Central Missouri College in Trenton,
MO. He spent the early part of his career as manager for Westlakes; first operating
stores in Columbia and then opening new stores in Oklahoma City, OK. In the late
80’s Dick returned to Missouri and helped care for his ailing mother.

Anyone who knew Dick, knew that he was an excellent guitarist. He played
bluegrass at various festivals and later played at dances and community events in
the band “Wheeler Crossing.” Dick was also a very accomplished cook. In
addition, he enjoyed reading, watching horror and sci-fi movies, and spending time
on the computer. Dick was an all-around great guy with a big heart, a quick wit,
and a ready smile. Family and friends will cherish the time they spent with him
and miss having him in their lives.

Those preceding Dick in death are his parents, Wilber Lake and Ruby Lear;
step-father, Roy Lear; sister, Joyce Bolin; brothers-in-law, Lester Bolin and Mike
McCann, and nephew, Mike Bolin.

Survivors include his sister, Brenda Umstattd of Lohman, MO, her husband Tom;
his nephew, Chris Umstattd and his wife Marilyn of Jefferson City, MO; his niece,
Angie Schmutz of Lohman, MO and her husband Brian, and their son, Dick’s great
nephew, Tommy and his niece, Lynn Darst of Madison, MO, and her husband,
Kevin; extended family and many good friends.

The family expects to hold a celebration of Dick’s life at a later date.

Memorial contributions in his honor are suggested to the American Diabetes
Association, 2833-B East Battlefield, Suite 100, Springfield, MO 65804.
