Rita Kay Baker Shoemaker, 74, of Moberly, passed away at Moberly Nursing and Rehab February 6, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Rita was born in Ralls County, MO July 29, 1943 to Joe R. Baker and Anna “Pearl” Nichols Baker. She graduated from Mark Twain High School in 1961 and went on to attend Quincy Cosmetology School.
Rita moved to Moberly from Perry, MO in 1978. She was a member of Carpenter Street Baptist Church in Moberly and later became a very active member of Immanuel Baptist Church until her health deteriorated. She was always there to help cook a meal or lend a helping hand to others.
While raising her family, she was a 4-H extension officer and worked as a cook at Moberly Caring Center, Community Daycare, and the Moberly High School, where she was the kitchen supervisor. She also did some catering for Orscheln’s. In her spare time she watched Cardinals baseball and was a devoted fan.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who cherished the time she spent with her family.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Pearl Baker; siblings, Leroy and Lucille Baker, Norma and Roscoe Ehrlich, Betty and Allen Hardy, and brother-in-law Victor Hulett.
She is survived by her children Renee (Mike) Huff of Moberly, Rusty (Paula) Shoemaker of Jacksonville, Jamie (Will) Schafer of Moberly; grandchildren, Chelsea Shoemaker and Cole Shoemaker both of Jacksonville, Christina Huff, Kayla Huff and Joseph Huff all of Moberly; siblings Dean (Martha) Baker of Perry and Martha Hulett of New Cambria.
Services for Rita will be Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home in Moberly followed by interment in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 until time of service. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Sugar Creek Cemetery C/O Tim Price, 1720 Lakewood Drive, Moberly, MO 65270.
