Robert Dillard Smothers, 63, of Moberly, MO passed away August 1, 2019 at his home. He was born January 9, 1956 in Moberly, MO to Noah Smothers and Jane Ellen (Perkins) Smothers.
Robert was a lifelong member of the Moberly and Cairo communities; graduating from Northeast R-IV High School and attending Cairo Baptist Church. In September of 1974, Robert married Patti Rook and from that union three children were born. He later wed Melissa Brockman at Tannehill Park in Moberly, MO. The two would have celebrated their fourth anniversary on August 8th of this year. They enjoyed traveling and visiting wineries.
He liked to hunt and fish when his health allowed. Robert also loved anything mechanical or with a motor. When his children were younger, they spent a lot of time with quad racing, motor cross and dirt track racing.
Robert was a skilled carpenter. He worked for Wick Homes, and CBS Homes. In his free time, he used his mechanical skills to rebuild muscle cars. In later years, he spent his time tinkering with and rebuilding lawn mowers, to the point that he was affectionately given the nickname, “The Lawn Mower Man”, by Moberly locals. Robert will always be remembered for his love of family and friends.
Robert is preceded in death by this parents, Noah and Jane Smothers.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Smothers of Moberly; his children, Robert Ryan Smothers of Columbia, Sara Jo (Dustin) Levell of Oak Grove, Rusty Rook Smothers of Moberly; stepson, Jonathon (Amber McElroy) Brockman of Folley, AL; grandchildren, Christian Rain Smothers and Cale Reid Smothers both of Columbia, Aleix Fry of Moberly, Gage Levell of Oak Grove, Kameron Joel Smothers and Kaleb Rook Smothers both of Moberly and Elliot James Brockman of Folley, AL; great grandchildren, Kanden Smothers of Iowa and new great grandson, Wyatt Fry Butner, arriving later this year; siblings, Tom (Gaile) Smothers of St. Louis, Noah Eugene (Pat) Smothers of Lebanon, Roy (Connie) Smothers of Moberly, Marla (Dave) Rasmussen of Cairo and Howard (Ellen) Smothers, of Holliday; several nephews and one niece; extended family and close friends.
A memorial service celebrating Robert’s life will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Go Fund Me account established in Robert’s name.
